Northern California–based drummer, educator, and drum tech. I love drums. Playing them, tuning them, and helping other drummers get more out of theirs.
I play drums for Kings Milk (Funk/EDM and Jazz) and Queen Karma (Alternative Rock), and I spend some of my summers with the Steven Bates Band in Mendocino. At Cal Poly Humboldt I've performed with the Jazz Combos, Jazz Orchestra, Calypso Band, Percussion Ensemble, World Percussion Ensemble, and Wind Ensemble.
What I'm really into is drum tuning and drum acoustics. I treat drums as melodic instruments, shaping pitch, resonance, and balance to get a sound that serves the music. I'm writing a book about it called Tuning with Overtones, and I run the Tune-Bot Drummers Community, a 7,000-member Facebook group for drummers who care about their sound.
I also do tuning and tech work, and I teach one-on-one lessons. If your drums don't sound the way you want them to, that's what I'm here for.
I post every day: grooves, odd-time ideas, drum covers, and tuning videos on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Patreon.
